Hurricanes, Diabetes and Your Medicine

Diabetes is causing a huge problem for those who attempt to stay and fail to listen to the mandatory evacuations required by law during large category hurricane landfalls. Many people who are diabetic need medicine and they need to eat properly. The problem comes when they do not have enough food stored and they run out of medicine due to the fact that all the area has been damaged and the power is off and many roads are still closed.

Worse off there is no gasoline or gas stations open and no power to run the pumps and therefore they cannot drive out of town to get the medicine they need or the proper diet and this can cause a huge problem and lead to further decay of their health.

The diabetes problem in the United States of America has grown to epidemic proportions and something must be done, but unfortunately nothing can be done fast enough considering the 2006 Atlantic tropical hurricane season has already started and hurricane Alberto is on its way to the Florida Gulf Coast.

For those who think they can ride out a hurricane and wait until authorities come get them or three or four weeks until things are back to normal need to consider that they will need one gallon of water per day and enough food to last three to four weeks and if they are diabetic they will need medicine.

They also need to understand without power there will be no air-conditioning and there may not be any gas stations to refill their gas cans so they can run a portable generator. Consider all listen 2006.
