1st Birthday Party Planning

The very first birthday in a child's life is probably the most special and the biggest celebration during childhood. It's been the year with the most changes. They've gone from sleeping through most of the day to playing right through the afternoon. They've gone from bottles to cups. And they've gone from crawling to walking. A party of this magnitude deserves plenty of planning and thought put into it.

For invitations, pick a theme you would like to use for the party. Winnie the Pooh is a very popular choice for younger children. Or you could pick something that is cute and whimsical like a ladybug or a butterfly theme. Bring the party back to nature by setting the party up outside or at a park. Make sure to buy lots of film and break out the video camera for this memorable occasion.

Save all of the cards you receive from guests and place them in a book along with the pictures. Your little one will enjoy being able to look back at their first birthday and see all of the people who were there to witness the first fistfuls of cake.

Even though your child is too young to do some of the party games, you can still provide things to do for your guests. Plan on getting a pull string piata for your child's first birthday party that will match your theme. A one year old child can handle this easy to do party game. Only use toys you would allow a one year old child to have as treasures for the piata. Leave out small pieces of candy or small toys. Or you might have guests who are old enough to enjoy a hearty piata. In which case, there would be nothing wrong with supplying two piatas. By keeping smaller children away from this activity, older children can have their fun and be rewarded with tasty treats.
